Week 22

Language Arts

 Living Museum from 10:45 and 11:30 on Thursday February 8^th and enjoy as many presentations as you would like to see.

Math

Students are working with multiplication and division problem solving. The class has been introduced to all of the multiplication facts along with strategies to memorize them or figure them out quickly.  The emphasis in third grade is to understand what multiplication is and how it applies to daily life.  Our class does an awesome job with making models of multiplication, drawing arrays, skip counting, etc.  In order to make their mathematical career easier, I also encourage automaticity with the facts.  Students should continue to practice those facts at home and work towards mastery of all facts through 12 x 12. Students who have passed all of the fluency tests, should also keep up their skills by practicing periodically.  Fluency tests are every Friday.  Your child should know which fact they are currently studying. 

Science

 We have begun a unit on space.  This unit will continue until the end of this grading period. 

Social Studies

We will have a quiz on inventors on Friday based on our student presentations.  Next week will begin a study of economics.  Students will be participating in an economics fair.  Students will be asked to make or bring a product to sell for play money.  Students will demonstrate supply, demand, profit, loss, income, as well as other concepts in the free enterprise system.  Please look for information to go home on the specifics and requirements of the fair in the next few weeks.
