STAAR READY and Economics Fair project

Dear Parents,

The class came through their round of STAAR Ready assessments like Superstars!  I saw most of them taking their time, showing their thinking and taking it seriously.  Best of all I saw improvement from everyone and I can use the data to guide instruction in the days moving towards the real STAAR. I will be placing grades up on Home Access for you to view by Friday, Feb 23rd. Both STAAR practice exams will not be calculated into the subjects average.

The Valentine's Day party was a success thanks to the wonderful parents who donated.

Economic Fair papers went home this week. This is the "next big thing" in third grade. Students will participate as consumers and compete as producers in a free market fair. Each class will set up a marketplace with student desks as booths for their goods or services. Students should plan to work in that space. Students should also plan to run their shops without parent assistance on the day of the fair.

First, your child will need to think of a product to sell or a service to provide. This ABSOLUTELY should NOT be a big expense.  $5 average. They will need to create their Business Plan and it is due on February 16th. Please see the previous post for a sample.

Please encourage your child to use inexpensive resources that are readily available. We ask that the price for items be limited to $1 or less. The lower the cost is, the higher the profit will be. All items or services should be priced to sell for $1 to $10. Consumers will be given $10 in play money to spend on products. Students will get to keep the items that they buy. I hope that this will be a fun and educational experience for your child.

Please if you have any questions ask me.
