In Language Arts we starting a unit on Biographies and Autobiographies. We are discussing how the point of view is different in a biography and autobiography. We are also discussing how these two types of genres are different from other nonfictional books.
We will also be writing another personal narrative in class. Students will be using their last personal narrative score in order to set goals for improvement for this narrative. We are always working to improve our skills as writers and communicators.
Please join us Wednesday December 6th, 5-7 pm, for FCE’s Literacy Night in which third grade will present poetry. Each grade level is representing a different continent. Third grade has North America. Each class has learned some cultural similarities of a given country in North America and wrote poetry to depict or showcase some aspect of that country. Our class has worked very hard on learning and creating poems about Puerto Rico. Come and enjoy poems about El Coqui, Puerto Rican Flag, Sonia Sotomayor, and Asopao.
Students have been practicing their cursive writing. So as well as learning cursive, we are increasing our vocabulary and using our inferring skills. Students are doing well in forming the letters. Making the connections between the letters has not been mastered, but we will continue to work on it.
In math we are finishing a unit multiplication and division strategies. Students are taking timed multiplication tests on Friday with 10 problems for now. The number of problems will increase as students master the facts. The expectation to pass the time test in 1 ½ minutes or less with no mistakes.
In Social Studies we are working on map skills. In science we have begun a unit on landforms and quick changes to the earth surface through volcanos, earthquakes, and landslides.

1. Wednesday December 6th – Passport to Literacy Night from 5-7 pm. Come and enjoy some literature from around the world.
2. Thursday December 21st – third grade pajama party 8-9 am. I have already sent out a signupgenius with the items that our class needs. Please sign up for an item (s) to bring.
3. Thursday December 21st is the last day of the grading period for Quarter 2. Students should make sure to have all work turned in. Don’t forget to check Home Access!
